Embracing the Future with Microsoft Copilot; A Universal.cloud Guide

Microsoft Copilot

On February 7, 2023, Microsoft unveiled its latest innovation, Microsoft Copilot. Designed as a successor to the retired Cortana, Copilot marks a significant advancement in AI chatbots, powered by Microsoft’s proprietary Prometheus model which is based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 architecture. From composing poetry to generating songs, Copilot’s versatility showcases its foundation in both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques, making it a robust conversational partner.

The Evolution of Microsoft Copilot

Initially launched as Bing Chat, Microsoft has strategically integrated this technology into Bing and Microsoft Edge, evolving the brand into what is now universally known as Microsoft Copilot. This integration offers seamless access for Microsoft 365 business subscribers, ensuring a secure and private exchange of information that does not contribute to further AI training.

During Build 2023, Microsoft took a step further by integrating Copilot directly into Windows 11 via the taskbar, enhancing user interaction with AI. This integration is further extended with the introduction of a dedicated Copilot key on Windows keyboards, first seen in devices like the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6.

Global Rollout for Windows

As of April 2024, Microsoft’s strategic rollout of Copilot integration in Windows has not yet reached the European Union. Now Copilot is available in North America and selected regions across Asia and South America.

It’s expected that later this year Copilot in the EU will also be integrated within Windows 11. The good news for the Netherlands is that the Dutch language is already supported in Copilot for MS 365. Read more in our news item: announcing Copilot in Dutch language
