Microsoft Teams unbundling and what It means for our customers

As a dedicated Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner, we understand the importance of staying informed about the latest developments in the software solutions we offer. Recently, Microsoft announced a significant change that will impact many of our customers: the unbundling of Microsoft Teams from Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites.

What Changed?

Starting from October 1, 2023, Microsoft began offering its business suites without Teams included in the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. This strategic move was designed to provide customers with more flexibility and choice in their software solutions. Now, as of April 1, 2024, this change has been extended globally, affecting all regions outside the EEA and Switzerland.

How does this affect you?

As our valued customer, this change means you now have the option to select a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 suite without Teams at a reduced cost. This is particularly beneficial for businesses that may already be using alternative communication platforms or those looking to customize their suite of productivity tools.

New standalone Teams offering required for Enterprise suites

In addition to the suite unbundling, Microsoft has introduced a new standalone Teams offering for Enterprise customers. This allows businesses that want to leverage the powerful collaboration features of Teams to do so independently of the full suite.

Existing customers with a subscription that includes Teams are not impacted

If you already have a subscription that includes Teams, you can continue to use, renew, upgrade and add seats to your current plans as usual.

When purchasing a new Business subscription you now have the option to choose for a subscription with or without Teams.

When purchasing a new Enterprise subscription (E1, E3, E5) and want to use Teams you need to purchase an additional Teams license.
