Microsoft has announced a new top tier for their productivity platform: Microsoft 365 E7. This suite, available from May 1, 2026, bundles everything an organization needs to work with AI securely and at scale.
What is Microsoft 365 E7?
Microsoft 365 E7 is an integrated suite combining four products that currently need to be purchased separately:
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 E5 | The complete productivity and security suite (Office apps, Teams, advanced security and compliance) |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | AI assistant in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and more |
| Microsoft Entra Suite | Identity and access management — who has access to what? |
| Microsoft Agent 365 | Management and governance of AI agents in your organization |
Microsoft 365 E7 is priced at $99 per user per month. By purchasing these components as a single package, you save up to 15% compared to buying them separately.
Why is Microsoft launching this?
Many organizations are already experimenting with Copilot and AI agents, but struggle to scale beyond pilots. The challenge isn't the technology itself, but the questions surrounding it:
- Security — How do I ensure AI only accesses the right data?
- Governance — How do I maintain oversight of which agents do what?
- Scalability — How do I go from a pilot with 10 users to the entire organization?
Microsoft 365 E7 is designed to answer these questions. It brings productivity, AI and security together in one platform, so you don't have to connect the individual components yourself.
What is Agent 365?
A key new component of E7 is Microsoft Agent 365. AI agents are smart assistants that can perform tasks autonomously — think processing invoices, answering customer questions, or monitoring processes.
Agent 365 gives your organization a central management layer for these agents:
- Visibility — Which agents are active and what are they doing?
- Security — Agents respect the same permissions as your employees
- Governance — IT maintains control over which agents are deployed
This applies to both Microsoft-built agents and agents from other vendors.
Who is E7 for?
Microsoft 365 E7 is particularly relevant if your organization:
- Is already on E5 and using Copilot — E7 is a logical next step that adds Entra Suite and Agent 365
- Wants to seriously adopt AI agents — Agent 365 provides the governance layer you need to deploy agents safely
- Prioritizes security and compliance — The integrated approach ensures AI works within your existing security framework
Currently on Microsoft 365 E3? E7 may be a bigger leap. In that case, it may make more sense to first upgrade to E5 and add Copilot, then grow into E7 over time.

What does this mean for your organization?
The E7 announcement shows where Microsoft is heading: AI is no longer a separate add-on, but becomes an integrated part of the productivity platform. For organizations already investing in Microsoft 365 and Copilot, this is a natural next step.
